Waypoint Partners round-up: A year of growth, post image

It has been an exciting year at Waypoint Partners. The team is now 25-strong, and we now have eight Partners globally.  We’ve also continued to expand into new territories across the UK and US, as well as growing our senior team.

This year we welcomed two new Partners, Jim Houghton and Julianna Richter.

Jim, joining the UK team, has more than 25 years’ experience advising marketing and communications businesses on corporate finance and was formerly CFO of Philadelphia based 160over90 which was acquired by Searchlight Capital. Julianna joins our New York team with more than 20 years’ experience in marketing communications, having held various executive leadership roles at Edelman, the world’s largest communications marketing firm.

Jim will be leading our international Corporate Finance activity, while Julianna will be helping clients on all day-to-day operations including strategy and expansion, business development and marketing, strategic planning and innovation.

We continued to expand our coverage into new territories including Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Nottingham, Bristol and San Francisco.

M&A success stories

Across the M&A market, buyers are becoming more diverse and now regularly include private equity groups like Phoenix Equity Partners – who this year made an investment in our client 1000heads. Alongside this, we’re seeing new buyers looking to boost or add to their existing offer via acquisition.

We’ve seen this first-hand with our own clients Blueleaf and Threepipe, acquired by Canadian and Italian companies respectively, giving both buyers an established presence in the UK.

A full events calendar

This year we’ve had some fantastic conversations with business leaders all over the country continuing the #WaypointThinks series.

There was a big appetite for our sales transformation workshops in Leeds and London. With such a competitive landscape, agency owners were keen to understand more about driving growth and improving business performance.

We also continued collaborating with the industry delivering events with Entourage, Agency Hackers and Don’t Panic Projects, who drew inquisitive audiences on a range of relevant topics. The audiences gained insight into a range of issues, including how to expand your business to the US, improving your value towards exit and sales transformation.

As we continued to expand our New York office, we ran a salon dinner for agency leaders: ‘Fast Forward – the future of marketing services and technology’ – which was a great success. Read more here.

Environmental issues are incredibly important to us at Waypoint, and we are proud to make a positive contribution for future generations – especially with three new babies across the Waypoint Partners team this year! Alongside working with Offset Earth, we’ve delivered a carbon neutral workforce.
